Fashion Marketing alumni Stella Kurnia took her final year project one step further by turning paper research into practical reality when she organized a fashion show, ADORN, for popular Indonesian fashion boutique Carvieno in March. As PR head, Stella frequently organizes such events, in which she manages everything from stage and invitation designs to press kits and swag bags. For ADORN, over 200 guests were present at the Carvieno store in Bandung, Indonesia for a sneak preview of over a hundred latest designs. Unlike other Indonesian brands, Stella feels that Carvieno is unique as it carries brands from fashion capitals such as Paris, Italy, USA, Hong Kong and Korea. “They have a different concept from any of the other boutiques found here in Bandung,” said Stella. It was one of the primary reasons why she chose to use them for her final year project, which eventually landed her the prime role of Fashion Consultant and Head of Public Relations. “The ADORN fashion show was a success because of both new and loyal customers,” Stella said. “But I would not have done it without the help of other key people.” Twice-weekly meetings with the owner, store managers and supervisors were vital, and the RMS alumni advises to “write down notes and ideas and stay calm when everything does not go as you planned.”

For instance, when key merchandise from Europe failed to show up on time, Stella considered postponing the entire show but then decided against it. A few well-placed phone calls ensured that hundreds of clothes and accessories found their way to the Bandung store, which were quickly snapped up by fashion-hungry customers after the fashion show.

Being forced to make snap decisions is not always easy but Stella is grateful for the strong education she received with RMS. “My education with Raffles equipped me not only with the knowledge about fashion but also confidence in what I do now with Carvieno,” she said. “My course helped me a lot with my work in the fashion industry from public relations to marketing.” If you are interested in Bachelor of Design (Fashion Marketing) programme, please contact: Bangkok Tel: +66 2 632 7656 |
